On December 3, 2006 it will be snowing at our YMCA,
from 3pm-5pm. Special Events at Weston
in partnership with the West Broward Family YMCA will bring the sounds,
the excitement, and the beauty of the holiday spirit to our City of
Professional and award-winning performances will bring much enjoyment that will lift our spirits as we celebrate, express, and unite in our diversity.
On this day we will remember our military, our troops at home and abroad performing their duties as soldiers for the cause of freedom and peace and in keeping our nation safe. Our daycare centers, elementary schools, middle and high schools, public and private, will be making hand-made holiday cards to be distributed to our troops by the United States Southern Command and the Mac Dill Airforce Base. The cards will represent the various cultures and the greeting sent in an effort to spread some holiday cheer from their homeland.
Performances will include:
- The Nutcracker – a lively dance and musical with chosen scene performances brought to us by the award-winning Madison-Brody Dance Foundation/Dancer’s Gallery, who have performed in such places as Disney World, Universal Studios, and more.
- The Ashante Cultural Arts Theater will delight the audience as they give a rendition of “Kwanzaa” – a holiday musical dance performance of the African American celebration of the holidays.
- Estrellitas (little stars) – an original piece by Roberto Rodriguez from his ballet “Nuestra Navidad”. Will represent our Hispanic culture and the holiday “Three Kings”.
- The Fort Lauderdale Children’s Theater – will amaze us with their performances from “Beauty and the Beast”.
- Hanukkah – this celebration of the holidays will be demonstrated with a musical drama from Superstar Productions.
- Eagle Point Elementary School – The award-winning “Soaring Eagles” will share their beautiful voices with songs of Christmas, Kwanzaa, Hanukkah, and Three Kings.
- The Grand Finale of these outstanding performances will be a high-energy, interactive “Holidays from Around the World” audience sing-a-long. A true family affair that will thrill, inspire, and excite our audience as their voices unite in the joys of “Ringing in the Holidays” with their children and families.
To add even more enjoyment of the evening will be Mr. and Ms. Santa Clause and strolling holiday characters such as the Toy Soldier, Rudolf, The Snowman ,The Gingerbread Man, the Dreidel and more, who will circulate and interact with the audience. On arrival, Santa will accept letters from any child with a holiday wish (receptacle provided) and the child will have a reply by the end of the event.
Free refreshment of Christmas cookies and juice will be provided through the generosity of The West Broward Family YMCA and a SANTA’S GRAB- BAG of a $50.00 Toys’ R’ Us gi ft certificate will be given to a lucky child by our Toy Soldier
Santa and his helpers will also distribute candy canes as the children leave and parents will be able to have their child’s picture taken with Mr. and Mrs. Claus and/or with their favorite holiday character.
The evening would not be complete without “snow!” which will be made possible in the cooperation with “Superstar Productions”.
