Eagle Point Elementary

Mission Statement

To encourage our students to become life-long learners, we will foster partnerships with parents, students, staff and community.
Together we will provide challenging educational opportunities to develop responsible, confident and productive citizens.

History

Eagle Point Elementary opened its permanent 12 acre nest in 1995 with all eagle-eyes focused on its motto, “Soaring on the wings of confidence and vision”. By spreading these wings to reach for the stars and beyond, our mission is being accomplished to provide challenging educational opportunities so our eaglets can become responsible, productive citizens and lifelong learners.

Eagle Point’s intellectual focus, with student as worker, teacher as coach, and creative administration reflects our official Broward County Membership in coalition of essential schools, in 1999 a national initiative for whole school change. This philosophy including tone of decency (character education) is the common thread woven throughout our whole school program.

Eagle Point’s flock of stakeholders beams with pride at the accomplishments that are unique to our nest.

During the first year of governor Bush’s A+ plan, Eagle Point was one of only 5 elementary schools in the district to receive an “A” report card. Since then, our school has received three additional “A” report cards.

Eagle Point stands proudly at the forefront of the new wave of education technology.

We were the first public elementary school in Broward County to pilot a school wide, individualized math and reading computer program, “Success Maker”, developed by Pearson Education.

Via an Annenberg grant involving the “School to home connection” with community businesses, Eagle Point set up and outreach center on “Cyberlane” at the Lakes Plaza Publix. This enable our eaglets to reinforce reading and math skills while their senior eagles shopped.

Our nest is well equipped with state-of-the-art technology to foster computer literacy. In addition to a central computer lab, each classroom has 4-6 computer workstations and eaglets use laptops in three intermediate classes.

Yearly schoolwide themes include “Building our Future”, “Solvitude”, “Vegging Out”, “Spacebotics”, “Mathemagic” and “Snapshots in History” a spirit of involvement and purpose, integrate the curriculum, promote a positive school climate and stimulate critical and creative thinking. These themes excite our entire flock of eagles, and help to improve our eaglets’ academic achievement. As a bonus, Eagle Point received three little red schoolhouse awards for these innovative schoolwide themes.

Our eaglets eagerly participated in multi-sensory, multiple intelligence-based experiences in “The Living Library”, which motivated them to develop a love for reading. Eaglets have soared to many different environments: Native Indian village, the ocean, the farm and to the desert with the motto, “The Library is an oasis in the desert!”

Eaglets receive a well-balanced education by participating in various clubs such as safety patrol, student council, chorus, and the art, PE and math clubs. These Extra-curricula activities help promote self-esteem, while making learning fun. Both the eagles and their eaglets together strike a happy balance by working hard and playing hard.

Strong support from parents and the community contributes greatly to Eagle Point’s climate for success through PTA, advisory group, foundation, Inc., and an active parent volunteer program. Our partners in education work cooperatively with ING in the sate of Florida five star award for community involvement for six consecutive years.

With the positive attitude, enthusiasm and creativity that radiates throughout the eagles’ nest, combined with innovative leadership and active involvement of parents and partners in education, Eagle Point continues to be a school of excellence. Together our flock of stakeholders have set the flight course to successfully “soar with the eagles” right into the 21st century and beyond.
